Greenhouse gas emissions grew almost twice as fast in the past decade as they did in the previous 30 years, bringing the world another step closer to a level of warming that could wreck havoc with the climate if humans don’t end their dependence on fossil fuels, says a shocking new report by the UN climate panel. The latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — the third of three since September — calls for a drastic shift from fossil fuels like oil and coal to renewable energy to avoid rising sea levels and an increase in storms, flooding, droughts and other extreme weather.
