Heads of state and business leaders from around the world will gather in New York City on September 23 to attend a Global Climate Summit at the United Nations. Once again, quantities of jet fuel will be burned and more hot air will be produced while the hopes of people around the world will be betrayed.
System Change Not Climate Change Coalition has a different plan. We’re working with labor unions, environmental justice groups and climate campaigners in New York City and acrosss the globe to convene a People’s Climate Mobilization to coincide with the UN event. The People’s Climate Mobilization will present the voices of scientists, climate activists, indigenous peoples, communities of color; representatives of struggles around the world fighting to save humanity and the planet. We refuse to be suppressed, marginalized or ignored.
The People’s Mobilization will challenge global leaders at the UN to drastically reduce greenhouse emissions. while presenting realistic and radical solutions to build the alternative world necissary to prevent the most severe impacts of climate change.
Through the People’s Mobilization will address the systemic nature of our ecological crisis, the economic system at the root of climate change, resource exhaustion, pollution, social disparity and poverty, and push for the systemic changes needed to reverse these trends and prevent global ecological and social collapse. We will bring that vision to the peoples of the world from right here in the heart of the country most responsible for climate change and the dire state our biosphere finds itself in.
