The fracking boom has transformed vast parts of Texas, pumping money into local economies while raising fears about groundwater and air pollution. The boom has caused increased crime and truck traffic, and has likely spawned earthquakes. But the oil and gas bonanza has also brought more subtle, but no less significant, social changes. Here's the complete press conference of SCNCC-Dallas/Fort Worth's action against ExxonMobil. While we didn't have the numbers of protesters we had wished, we did have a great press conference with great speakers and excellent media coverage. We were able to get a wide range of support for this action from various progressives groups in the DFW metroplex. It was also the first time that our SCNCC banner was shown in public. SCNCC made its presence known in Dallas for the first time! Please watch the video; I hope our speakers will inspire to further actions!

Our 2014 May Day celebration was a huge success. We had music from Solace and Eamon Danzig. We had poetry from Rashad and a powerful presentation from the inimitable Afi Bell.

Kilaika Baruti gave an informative and moving presentation about the history of May Day and the story of Lucy Parsons, a labor activist whose husband Albert was judicially murdered for his role in the original May Day. Gary Stuard gave a long and powerful explanation of the way that capitalism is destroying our environment. And there were other speakers.
